Times of India: an Italy order for Malwan peda, and a GI application
The Times of India
2 October 2026

Kapil Dixit, The Times of India, 2 October 2026. One reported 200 kg order after the trade show. The tag is not described as granted, and this website does not ship to Italy.
On 2 October 2026, The Times of India published “Fatehpur’s famous Malwan peda lands Italy export order, eyes GI tag,” by Kapil Dixit.
The report says Sohanlal Gupta, described as proprietor of Malwan ka Sohan Peda, received an order to supply 200 kg of peda to the Italian company Domenico Percoco after the UP International Trade Show, where the sweet was shown under the One District One Product scheme. That is the paper’s account of one order. This website does not ship outside India.
An official quoted in the report, Dinesh Chandra, spoke of sales of over Rs 6 lakh by three Malwan peda traders together during the five-day show. This website does not treat that combined figure as Sohan Peda’s own sales. He is also quoted on a path being cleared for export, and on the sweet moving closer to a Geographical Indication tag. The report says an application was filed in June 2025 and that a hearing was held in June 2026. It does not say a tag has been granted. Sohan Peda is not described on this site as GI-tagged.
The same article repeats a local account that dates Malwan peda to the 1960s and to a tea stall run by Mohanlal Gupta, and it names three brands. This website does not use that account as the Sohan Peda family record. The family account published here remains the one dated to about 1970.
Dainik Jagran’s later report of the same trade show is here: Malwan peda and an Italy order.
